The New York State Community Action Association (NYSCAA) and the New York State Weatherization Director’s Association (NYSWDA) invite you to take part in the Annual Joint NYSCAA/NYSWDA Professional Development Conference and Awards Celebration.

As a result of NYSCAA’s evaluation of previous training events, this fall, the Association agreed to move from three conferences a year to one, more professionally-focused event offered annually in June. As you will see from this brochure, the Membership Development Committee and the NYSCAA/NYSWDA staff have put together a complement of training, policy discussions, and networking opportunities that we hope meet the expectations of chief executives, board members, senior management staff, program directors, and key fiscal staff. Topics and session design has been developed based on member feedback and requests. Professional development sessions are offered in areas such as legal issues and bylaws, organizational assessment, succession planning, and personnel polices with policy discussions focused on living wage, immigration, and a call for a Statewide Commission on Poverty. Board training, facilitated executive and program director roundtables, and multiple formal and informal networking opportunities are offered as well. New this year, an Advanced Fiscal Institute will be offered for a slightly higher fee that will provide fiscal directors and staff access to a high quality training opportunity.

Annual Dinner and Awards Celebration

The Annual Dinner and Awards Celebration will be a highlight of the Conference and the both NYSCAA and NYSWDA will be giving awards this year. Member meetings of both organizations and the voting in of new board members will be a key component as well. Below, please find links to the NYSCAA Annual Awards Categories, Nomination Instructions, and Awards Nomination Form.

There are awards categories for staff, executive leadership, volunteers, customers and agencies and we hope that you can nominate at least on individual or agency for an award.

Of special note is the Personal Achievement Award. This award recognizes a recipient of Community Action services who has achieved significant personal accomplishments and the recipient of this award will be nominated for the National Community Action Partnership Annual Achievement Award that is awarded at Partnership’s annual conference. This year, the Partnership’s conference it is to be held in San Diego, CA in late August.

You will also see that there is a new award this year, the Technology Leadership Award. This award is an Agency-level award to recognize the Community Action Agency that has maximized its use of technology to positively impact the community it serves. This may be reflected in new ways to disseminate information, serve customers, improve efficiencies, etc.

Please distribute these documents to your staff, board and volunteers as you see fit. We will also be soliciting nominations from the network.

We urge you to consider nominating someone for an award this year. In years past, some awards have not had the number of nominations that would reflect the work of the network. In order to encourage nominations, each person who nominates someone/an agency for an award will be put placed into a raffle for a special prize at the Annual Dinner and Awards Celebration to held, Tuesday, June 12th. More information on the prize will follow in future communications.

Thank you in advance for your participation in the nomination process. On my agency visits I have been regularly inspired by the creative and dynamic work you and your staff do every day and I look forward to seeing that work recognized by your colleagues in June.

Thanks and please contact me if you have any questions.
