Description - The New York State Community Action Association is pleased to invite you to a one-day workshop on the history, philosophy and the future of America's "War on Poverty". David Bradley, Executive Director of the National Community Action Foundation, will examine how four decades of national anti-poverty legislation and policy have shaped, challenged and ultimately reinforced the unique role and responsibilities assigned to community action agencies and other entities derived from the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964.
Topics Include:
* The changing role of government in addressing the needs of the poor (1929 -2007);
* The Ford Foundation and the Gray Areas Project: Laying the Foundation for the Community Action Program;
* The Kennedy Plan for Poverty;
* All the Way with LBJ: Launching the War on Poverty;
* Bridge Over Troubled Waters: Community Action in the Turbulent 60s;
* The Mission and Purpose of Community Action; and
* The Role of Congress and the White House in the Community Action Programs
This is a a special pre-conference session of the NYSCAA Annual Professional Development Conference with it's own fee. The $100 fee covers lunch on the 10th and all training materials.

Description - The NYSCAA/NYSWDA Annual Awards Dinner is a wonderful evening celebrating the achievements of volunteers, staff, customers, and leaders in New York State. If you are not attending the Annual Professional Development Conference (June 11-13) but do wish to attend the Awards Dinner, you are in the right place to register.
Please note that Award Winners may attend the dinner for free and may bring along a guest for free as well. For others attending only the dinner, the cost is $50. |
